Screen printing film production is one of the crucial steps that determines the print quality of the product. Therefore, screen printing units all pay great attention to this stage. Screen printing will help create prints with much sharper and more realistic details compared to the original model.
1. What is screen printing film production?
Screen printing film production is the process of creating a product’s image on the printing plate. This process creates the product’s shape on the printing mesh surface, allowing the ink to pass through and form a print on the product’s surface (bags, garments, paper, etc.). If the film production process is faulty, the printed product will be defective. Therefore, this is an extremely important step that you should pay special attention to.

2. What do you need to prepare for screen printing film production?
To achieve a complete and sharp screen print, you need to learn carefully about the screen printing film production process and prepare the following:
– Film: The film is printed from the design on the computer onto a tracing paper. This is a transparent film with the specific shape of the design that will be printed.
– Exposure table: The exposure table helps create the best possible light for exposure. The exposure table is made of wood, measuring approximately 70cm x 50cm x 15cm. Inside, there are 3-5 60cm UV lamps, and on top is a 5 or 8mm thick glass plate designed to ensure the best possible light for exposure or to use natural light.
– Screen frame: This is a wooden or aluminum frame with a special mesh in the middle. Make sure this frame is clean and completely dry.
– Emulsion: The emulsion is usually purchased in two components: photosensitive powder and thick emulsion. Next, you will need to cook this emulsion, and the cooking process also requires a lot of experience to produce the best quality emulsion. The cooked emulsion is often thick, smooth, and quite sticky. After mixing the emulsion with the photosensitive powder, you should let the emulsion stand for about 1 hour to allow the air bubbles to dissipate and ensure the emulsion is mixed thoroughly.
– Photosensitive powder: Photosensitive powder serves to increase light sensitivity so that the design pattern can be printed onto the printing mesh. Photosensitive powder is usually orange in color and should be stored in a dark place or it will spoil.
In addition, you need to prepare a squeegee, a stopwatch, a spacer, black paper, and a 3-4kg weight.
Once you have prepared all of the above, you can proceed to learn about screen printing film production techniques.

3. How to produce screen printing film using a film exposure machine
The screen printing film production process is not too complicated if you follow all the steps below:
Step 1: Mix the emulsion, using photosensitive powder.
Step 2: Pour the emulsion into the squeegee, spread it evenly along the length of the mesh frame, and then pull one side to spread the emulsion evenly over the mesh surface.
Step 3: Dry and then expose.
Step 4: Exposure
Remember to expose from bottom to top, so you need to cover with black paper and then foam on top of the mesh. Then place the spacer and a heavy object on top of the spacer. The main purpose is to help remove all air bubbles. If using a UV lamp, you should expose the lamp for about 30-60 seconds.
Step 5: Wash the film
After exposure, take the film out to wash. Before washing, soak it in water for a few minutes to soften the emulsion for easy washing. The thicker the exposure, the longer the soaking time. Wash the film from light to strong, from large strokes to fine strokes. To ensure a beautiful print when learning about screen printing film production, you should use a film spray gun with pressure adjustment and a spray gun that can adjust the strength of the spray.
Illustration 3: The screen printing film production process is quite simple – cheap and high-quality screen printing
In theory, the screen printing film production process will be carried out sequentially as described above. However, when putting it into practice, there may be many other problems, such as: How to pull the emulsion correctly, how long to expose, how to wash the film correctly, how much photosensitive powder to use, etc.
